Trekkers will be picked up from Natraj Chowk, Rishikesh, at 7:30 AM, marking the start of an exhilarating journey into the Garhwal Himalayas. Rishikesh, a city that never sleeps, offers a variety of experiences for those with extra time, from the adrenaline rush of river rafting and bungee jumping to the serene beauty of the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or the spiritual exploration of sacred sites like Parmarth Niketan and Laxman Jhula. The city's vibrant energy will surely get you excited for the journey ahead.

The journey follows the scenic Badrinath Road, unveiling breathtaking views of river valleys, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks. The Alaknanda River remains a constant companion, transforming from a gentle stream in the lower regions to a powerful force as the altitude increases. Trekkers will pass through several culturally and spiritually significant locations along the way, each adding a layer of enrichment to the journey. The first major stop is Devprayag (1,985 ft), where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers merge to form the sacred Ganga. Further ahead lies Rudraprayag (2,920 ft), the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers, deeply tied to Hindu mythology. Continuing the ascent, you will reach Karnaprayag (4,980 ft), where the Pindar River merges with the Alaknanda, a site associated with Karna from the Mahabharata. The journey also takes you through Nandaprayag (4,350 ft), where the Mandakini River meets the Alaknanda, adding another spiritually enriching stop.

As the drive progresses, the landscape shifts dramatically from lush green valleys to rugged mountain terrain dotted with terraced fields and quaint Himalayan villages. A lunch stop at a roadside dhaba or restaurant allows one to savor traditional Garhwali cuisine while soaking in the stunning views. By late evening, after covering approximately 253 km over 9-10 hours, you will arrive at Joshimath (6,150 ft), a sacred town and a significant base for numerous Himalayan treks, including the Pangarchulla Peak Trek. Nestled amidst towering peaks, Joshimath offers a tranquil retreat before embarking on the trek. You will be welcomed with refreshing tea and snacks and a briefing session about the upcoming adventure. A wholesome dinner awaits at a comfortable guest house or lodge, where you can unwind and prepare for the journey ahead. The overnight stay at the hotel promises a restful night, ensuring you are well-rested and prepared for the trek.

Today morning we start early breakfast in Joshimath, followed by an exhilarating 1.5-2 hour drive to Tugashi Village (8,000 ft / 2,450 m). The 35-40 km journey takes you through winding mountain roads, offering breathtaking views of the Garhwal Himalayas. Along the way, you'll witness the landscape's rugged beauty, with deep valleys, river gorges, and distant snow-capped peaks adding to the adventure.

Upon reaching Tugashi, the starting point of the trek, you will embark on a 4 km trek (3-4 hours) towards Gulling Top (9,400 ft / 2,850 m). The trail consists of steep and gradual ascents, passing through charming mountain villages and terraced farmlands typical of the region. Although the greenery may be sparse, the panoramic views of the Garhwal frontier and the glimmering Dhauli-Ganga River below make the climb truly rewarding. You will also catch glimpses of the Vishnugad-Tapovan Hydroelectric Power Station, a fascinating sight along the way.

As you ascend further, the steeper trails lead you past the terraced farms and into more rugged terrain. In the distance, you see the first breathtaking sight of Dronagiri Peak. Its towering presence against the sky adds a mystical charm to the journey. Soon, the landscape opens into a serene alpine meadow, marking your arrival at Gulling Top, where the campsite will be set up for the night.

The Gulling campsite is surrounded by dense oak forests, providing a peaceful atmosphere, while Dronagiri, Hathi Parvat, Gauri Parbat, and Barmal Peak dominate the horizon. As the evening sets in, the golden glow of the sunset over the mountains creates an awe-inspiring spectacle. The night will be spent in tents, under a starlit Himalayan sky, making for a perfect end to the day's journey.

Trek Guiling to Khullara: Approx 6 Kms; 5-6 Hrs

After an early breakfast at Gulling Top, the adventure continues with a moderate ascent towards Khullara (11,000 ft / 3,350 m). The 5-6 km trek takes 4-5 hours, weaving through a mesmerizing forest trail lined with oak, rhododendron, and walnut trees. As we leave the campsite, the path meanders through a muddy route, enclosed under a dense forest canopy, offering a tranquil start to the day. While the big mountain views remain obscured for the initial stretch, the enchanting flora and occasional snow patches add an undeniable charm to the trail.

The trek offers multiple water points and features sharp curves with deep ravines on one side, making for an exciting and immersive experience. Vibrant rhododendron blooms in hues of pink and red brighten the path while towering Silver Birch and Spruce trees add to the forest's rich biodiversity. As the altitude increases, snow begins to appear, signaling the transition into the famous winter trails of Pangarchulla.

By midday, we will arrive at the Khullara campsite, a tranquil clearing surrounded by blue pine, oak, and rhododendron forests. Upon reaching the camp, a freshly prepared lunch awaits, offering a well-earned meal after the morning's trek.

An acclimatization walk to the Khullara meadows (40-minute trek) is planned in the afternoon. This short excursion is enriching, as it unveils breathtaking views of the Himalayan giants, including Kamet, Mana Parvat, Deoban, Hathi Parvat, Garud, Trishul, and Dronagiri peaks. The Khullara Top, part of the legendary Lord Curzon's Trail, offers a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains, making it a truly unforgettable sight.

As the sun sets, trekkers will return to Khullara campsite for the evening. The rest of the day is reserved for relaxation and altitude adjustment. Enjoy the serene Himalayan ambiance, unwind around a warm campfire, and share stories with fellow trekkers. With the increasing altitude, a good night's rest is essential, as the next leg of the journey promises more significant challenges and even more rewarding vistas.

The day begins early with a hearty breakfast, followed by an exhilarating 3-4 km trek (each way) that takes approximately 5-6 hours. The trail gradually ascends through alpine meadows, featuring a few steep sections that will challenge your endurance. However, the rewarding panoramic views of Dronagiri, Hathi Parvat, Gauri Parbat, Neelkanth, and Chaukhamba will keep your spirits high. Upon reaching Khullara Top, trekkers are greeted with a stunning vista of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. At this point, three trails diverge: one leads back to Tali, another ascends toward Pangarchulla, and the third continues toward Kuari Pass. After a short break to soak in the beauty and regain energy, the trek continues towards Kuari Pass, navigating a combination of inclines and narrow ridges.

Arriving at Kuari Pass is an unforgettable experience—a place often called the "Doorway to Heaven." The 360-degree views of snow-covered peaks are breathtaking and make this spot one of the most picturesque locations of the trek. The pass is also historically significant, as Lord Curzon, the famous British explorer, once explored it. Standing here, you follow past adventurers' footsteps while gazing at the pristine Himalayan range. Be prepared for cold and windy conditions, as the weather at the pass can be unpredictable.

After spending some time at the pass, taking memorable photographs, and enjoying the incredible landscape, the group will return to Khullara. The descent is relatively more straightforward, allowing trekkers to appreciate the scenic beauty from a renewed perspective.

Back at the Khullara campsite, the remainder of the day is dedicated to rest, and light acclimatization walks around the area. This time is a crucial break and an essential preparation for the upcoming high-altitude ascent to Pangarchulla Peak. Acclimatization is key to ensuring everyone is well-prepared for the challenges ahead. A nutritious dinner will be served, followed by an early night's rest to further aid in the acclimatization process.

The most awaited day of our trek begins early at 2:00 AM under the starry Himalayan sky. With headlamps lighting the path, you set off for the challenging climb to Pangarchulla Summit. The long trek requires endurance, mental determination, and proper gear, including microspikes and an ice axe if needed. It is advised to carry at least 2 liters of water, as no water sources are along the trail.

The initial stretch follows Lord Curzon's Trail for about 1.5 hours before diverging into a steeper, more rugged ascent. As you navigate the ridge climb, the terrain transitions to level snow-covered grounds, making the ascent more demanding.

As the first light of dawn paints the sky, the trail comes alive in shades of gold, pink, and orange. The mesmerizing sunrise over the Himalayas fills you with renewed energy, and the Chaukhamba Massif, Mana, Kamet, and Hathi-Gauri peaks stand tall in the distance, creating a breathtaking backdrop.

Upon reaching the base of Pangarchulla Peak, your experienced and qualified trek leader will guide you through essential climbing techniques, including roping up if required. The final ascent is the most challenging part, involving a steep ridge walk and a knife-edge climb, where strong winds and icy conditions add to the difficulty. Microspikes are crucial at this stage to maintain a steady grip on the slippery, snow-laden slopes.

The summit must be reached as soon as possible to avoid the melting snow, which can make the descent treacherous. The final stretch includes navigating six ridges, some of which require the use of an ice axe to carve steps through the deep snow.
