The Sar Pass Trek begins in Kasol (5,184 ft), a peaceful riverside village perfect for acclimatization. Trekkers then trek for approximately 9 km through pine forests to reach the serene Grahan Village (7,700 ft). The trail then ascends about 7 km to Min Thatch (9,000 ft), a meadow surrounded by wildflowers and alpine beauty. The next leg covers 8 km to Nagaru (11,150 ft), where trekkers get their first taste of high-altitude terrain and stunning views. The most thrilling day includes a 14 km trek crossing the snow-covered Sar Pass (13,600 ft) and descending to the lush Biskeri Thatch (11,000 ft). The final stretch of 10 km winds through scenic forests and hamlets like Pulga and Tosh, ending at Barshaini, followed by a short drive back to Kasol. Each stop brings a unique terrain, various unforgettable views, and moments that stay with you long after the trek ends.

Best Time to Do Sar Pass Trek

The Sar Pass Trek is most beautiful between mid-May and early July. During this period, the trail is a canvas of blooming wildflowers, lush green meadows, and snow-covered stretches, creating a breathtaking contrast that is sure to inspire awe in every step you take.

May and June are ideal months for trekking as the snow still lingers on the higher altitudes like Nagaru and Sar Pass (13,600 ft), adding to the thrill and visual beauty of the journey. The weather during this time is pleasant and stable, with daytime temperatures ranging between 15°C to 20°C in the lower regions and 0°C to -5°C in higher camps. Nights can be chilly, but the clear skies make it worth it, with starry nights and golden sunrises lighting up the mountains. To prepare for these conditions, it’s advisable to pack warm clothes, a good sleeping bag, and sturdy trekking shoes.

Avoid trekking during the monsoon (July to August) due to slippery trails and unpredictable weather. Similarly, winters are off-limits as the entire region is covered in deep snow and becomes inaccessible.
