4 Days

Embarking on a spiritual journey to Uttarakhand, one enchants the sacred Kedarnath Temple, which stands as one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, alongside the legendary Triyuginarayan Temple—an iconic site of their divine marriage.

Kedarnath Temple: Located at 3,583 meters (11,755 ft), Kedarnath is a significant shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. As the centerpiece of the Char Dham Yatra, it offers breathtaking views of majestic snow-covered mountains. The journey to Kedarnath involves a 16 km trek from Gaurikund, a revered site linked to the spiritual practices of Goddess Parvati.

The Triyuginarayan Temple, located just 5 km from Sonprayag, is famous for the eternal flame known as Akhand Dhuni, which has been continuously burning since the celestial wedding of Shiva and Parvati. This temple is also known for its sacred ponds, believed to have restorative properties for infertility and to bring marital happiness. Architecturally reminiscent of Kedarnath, it rests peacefully at an altitude of 1,980 meters (6,500 ft).

KEDARNATH WITH TRIYUGINARAYAN

Kedarnath Temple: A Spiritual Treasure situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) in the majestic Garhwal Himalayan range, Kedarnath Temple stands as both an architectural and spiritual beacon. This revered shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is recognized as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, holding significant importance in Hindu lore. It is believed that the temple’s foundations were laid during the Mahabharata period and was subsequently reconstructed by the revered saint Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.

Mythology Belief: In Hindu mythology, it is said that the Pandavas came to this sacred site to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva for their actions during the Kurukshetra war. Legend has it that Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a bull and, upon entering the ground, left behind his hump, which is revered in the temple’s sanctum.

The Triyuginarayan Temple, a significant pilgrimage destination, is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is famous for being the site of the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, where Vishnu served as a witness and Brahma officiated.

Temple Highlights of the Temple:

– Eternal Flame (Akhand Dhuni)- This is a fire that has been continuously burning since the sacred marriage ceremony. Pilgrims often add fuel to the flame and collect sacred embers, hoping for divine blessings and favors.

-Saraswati Ganga Stream:- The temple courtyard is graced by this flowing stream, which feeds into four sacred water ponds known as Kunds. Each Kund has its own significance: –

i. Rudra Kund: Is used for purification.
ii. Vishnu Kund: Is for spiritual cleansing.
iii Brahma Kund: Offers sacred drinking water.
iv. Saraswati Kund: Is meant for making offerings.

These waters are believed to have healing and reproductive properties. Architecturally, the temple reflects the Nagara style of design, similar to that of the Kedarnath Temple, and houses a revered silver idol of Vishnu, accompanied by images of the goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati.

Mythology Belief: The importance of this narrative lies in how Parvati earned Lord Shiva’s love. After a rigorous period of penance near Gauri Kund, situated just 5 km away, the union of the two was observed by sages and deities in the village of Triyuginarayan. This village was once home to Himavat, Parvati’s father. Many pilgrims visit Gauri Kund and Guptkashi, the site where Shiva revealed his love for Parvati, before heading to the temple.
