Yamunotri Gangotri Yatra

5 Days

Do Dham Yatra of Yamunotri Gangotri Dham: This sacred spiritual journey invites devotees to explore two of the most revered sites in Uttarakhand, India. This pilgrimage offers a deeply spiritual experience centered around the sacred temples of Yamunotri and Gangotri, both honoring the Ganga rivers. The length of the trip varies, with many travelers also visiting nearby holy destinations, leading to journeys that can last from a few days to several weeks. Yamunotri, located in the Garhwal Himalayas, is the source of the revered Yamuna River and is the most westerly of the Char Dham shrines. Nestled at the foot of Bandarpoonch Parvat, this temple is of significant religious importance to Hindus.

The Yamunotri Temple features an impressive black marble statue of Goddess Yamuna. Many worshippers are drawn to this site due to the challenging trek to the river’s source at Champasar Glacier on Kalind Mountain, which is 4,421 meters above sea level. Jankichatti, known for its sacred hot springs, allows pilgrims to cleanse themselves before offering prayers. At Surya Kund, a thermal spring, devotees prepare rice or potatoes by cooking them in the hot water and then offering the cooked food as Prasad. Near Surya Kund, Divya Shila, a holy rock pillar, is venerated by worshippers before they pay their respects to Goddess Yamuna.

Gangotri, often referred to as the Abode of Goddess Ganga, is a tranquil town situated along the Bhagirathi River at an altitude of 3,048 meters. It is one of Uttarakhand’s Char Dham and is home to the highest temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Built by General Amar Singh Thapa, the Gangotri Temple houses revered idols of Goddess Ganga, along with those of Goddess Yamuna, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati, and Annapurna. The Natural Shivling, a submerged rock formation, is believed to be the site where Lord Shiva welcomed Ganga into his locks, causing its water levels to drop. Nearby, the Gaumukh Glacier marks the origin of the Bhagirathi River, which can be reached on foot. The surrounding Deodar forests enhance the serene atmosphere, contributing to the spiritual ambiance of the region. The Yamunotri Gangotri Yatra is a transformative journey that weaves together spirituality, breathtaking natural beauty, and devotion, offering an opportunity to connect with the sacred rivers that have profoundly influenced Indian culture for centuries.
